President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry M Sabur Khan on Sunday laid emphasis on the wider use of cloud computing saying it offers the potential for enhanced efficiency. The DCCI leader made the remark at the launching ceremony of the Unctad’s Information Economy Report 2013, subtitled ‘The Cloud Economy and Developing Countries,’ jointly organised by Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute and the DCCI in the city.
Sabur said cloud computing also enables small enterprise to outsource some of the information technology skills that they would otherwise have to provide internally.
He urged the authorities concerned to expedite the broadband internet facility to rural areas make it available to all walks of people mentioning that cloud computing enables users to access a scalable and elastic pool of data storage and computing resources, as and when required.
Sabur was present at the function as chief guest while CEO of BFTI M Mozibur Rahman chaired the session. Research Fellow of BFTI Mohammad Farhad presented the keynote paper.
Cloud computing is a way of delivering applications, services or content remotely, rather than requiring users to hold them on their own servers, computers or other devices.
The report says that developing nations should seek the expertise needed to make cost-effective decisions on which infrastructure is needed and on how to mobilise the financial resources.
The report recommends that policymakers should waste no time in exploring how the cloud computing trend may affect their economies and societies and government should seek to create an enabling framework for firms and organisations that wish to migrate data and services to the cloud.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mozibur Rahman said a central database is very important for trade and commerce, and mentioned that cloud computing increases people’s ability to do more work through networking.
He said regular software update is possible by cloud computing and regulatory framework and law should be formulated to control cyber crime.
