An accumulation of clouds, sailing from Eastern ghat in Orissa, has spoilt the winter at its peak making the weather a bit warmer, met office sources said.
The presence of clouds and associated moisture-laden air have not only pushed up the mercury but also contributed to recent spell of fog clouding the visibility, mainly on the river basins, wetlands and highways in the early hours.
The January weather has so far remained not so cold despite forecasts of a mild cold wave wrapping the weather, at least two moderate to severe cold waves over the northern and central regions and light to moderate cold waves over the rest of the country.
The country’s lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Srimangal on January 5 when the mercury went down to 7.6 degrees Celsius. Since then the temperature continued to climb up, rising to 10.7 degrees Celsius on Monday at Srimangal.
It was the lowest in the country on Monday, the met office sources said.
The highest temperature in the country on Monday was 29.9 degrees Celsius at Cox’s Bazar.
In the capital the maximum temperature was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 15.3 degrees.
Despite forecast, no light rains or drizzles were reported from the northern region on Monday.
When the clouds move away or burst into rains, the temperature is expected to become cool again, weathermen said.
It is likely during the next two days when the night temperatures start falling again, they added.
