Women held a rally in the Barisal city on Thursday, protesting at 13-point demand of Hefajat-e-Islam.
Sammilita Nari and Sachetan Nagarik Samaj jointly organised the rally in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall.
After the rally, they paraded city roads and handed over a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
Rabeya Begum, president of Sammilita Nari Samaj, presided over the programme addressed, among others, by district AL secretary and lawmaker Talukdar Md Yunus, upzila vice-chairman Rehana Begum, BCC councillor Kohinur Begum, Professor Tulu Rani Karmakar, NGO organisers Rahima Sultana Kajal, Nigar Sultana Hanufa, former district bar association president Advocate Manabendra Batobayal.
Rejecting the 13-point demand as ‘against freedom of thought’, they said the demands went against the rights of women and humanity in society.
The protesters said the demands were anti-constitutional and against the spirit of the liberation war and called upon the people to build social resistance to keep the nation free of the ‘evil force’.
