Women lawyers on Saturday condemned Friday’s incident at Motijheel in which Class III student Shanto Islam received multiple critical injuries hit by rubber bullets.
Shanto is battling for his life at the casualty ward of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A student of a school at Rupganj, Narayanganj, he came to visit her aunt in the city.
On his way back to his aunt’s house from Fakirapool, where he had gone carrying midday meal for his vendor father, Santo was hit by rubber bullets during clashes between the police and the activists of Jamaat and Shibir.
In a press statement, Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association said that every citizen has the right to move freely and lead a normal life.
It is the duty of the state to ensure safety and security of the citizens, it said.
BNWLA called what happened to the minor student as ‘unexpected and tragic.’
The statement signed by BNWLA executive director Salma Ali urged all to allow children to live in a society free from conflicts and all sorts of violence.
Following CT scans and other tests, DMCH doctors said that they found critical injuries in his head, back and shoulder.
