The women’s national kabaddi team departs for Andhra Pradesh, India today for the Invitational Women’s Kabaddi Tournament from January 14-18.
Captain Shahnaz Parvin said on Sunday that she hoped her side would produce strong results in the competition, having trained together for the last two weeks in addition to training with their Bangladesh Ansar and Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation teams.
Bangladesh is the only one of the 20 participating teams to hail from outside India. They won the Invitational Bangabandhu Cup in West Bengal in 2012.
Coach Subimol Chandra Das said that the tournament was a part of the national team’s preparation for the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea in September.
The tournament champions are set to receive one lakh rupees. The runners-up will get 75,000 rupees and the third-place side will get 50,000 rupees.
