The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2011 qualifying round kicks off Monday at four different venues in the city. Four matches will be played on the opening day. The host Bangladesh will take on Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka will face against South Africa at the Khan Shaheeb Osman Ali Stadium at Fatullah, Netherlands will play against Zimbabwe at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) groud-2 and Ireland will clash against West Indies at the BKSP ground-3. The other two participating teams are Japan and USA.
Ten teams divided into two groups are talking part in the qualifying round. The two group champio9ns and runners-up will qualify for the final round to be held in India next year. They will join England, Australia, India and New Zealand in the final round.
The top six teams of the qualifying round will earn the one-day international status and top two will get the opportunity to play in the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup to be hosted by Sri Lanka also in 2012.
