The Sylhet District Construction Worker Union on Sunday formed a human chain in the city, demanding immediate arrest of the owners of garment factories housed at Rana Plaza, proper compensation for the victims’ families and necessary treatment for the wounded apparel workers.
The union members participated in the human chain formed in font of the Central Shaheed Minar at Chowhatta in the city in the afternoon.
Leaders of the association at a rally during the human chain urged the government for taking stern action against the
garment owners responsible for Rana Plaza tragedy, so that other garment owners would not dare in future to show such negligence towards their employees.
They also demanded proper compensation for the victims’ families and highest treatment for the injured garment workers side-by-side ensuring exemplary punishment of the people responsible for the terrible incident.
The association president, Sheikh Tofayel Ahmed Sepul, chaired the rally, which was addressed, among others, by the city BNP former president Ariful Haque Chowdhury, District Labourer League president Ezazul Haque, SDCWU general secretary Nizam Uddin and its organising secretary Shah Alam Sardar.
