The ear soothing sounds of guitar and piano and melodious songs in French, English and Bengali entertained the audience at La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka at Dhanmondi on Thursday.
The show was the first of two-day programme organised jointly by Alliance Française de Dhaka and the Embassy of France in Bangladesh to celebrate World Music Day, which is marked on June 21.The music and language students and teachers of AFD performed on the occasion. The show began with melodic piano recitals that created a joyous atmosphere inside the gallery. Priyanka’s nimble-fingered playing of French song Concerto pour deux voix on piano enthralled the audience. The magic of Beethoven was rejuvenated as Annesha Mulib Choity played Monn light sonata.
The plucking of the strings on acoustic guitar by Erfanul Haque Ratul, created a rhythmic resonance of Johannes Moller’s piece Song to the mother. Yanni’s renowned song Almost a whisper was beautifully executed by Imran Hossain Joy on his guitar in solo at the programme. Raisa and Rushda jazzed up the evening with a duet on guitar By the rivers of Babylon, a world famous composition of Boney M.
The atmosphere changed as Mahfuzur Rahman rendered Ek paye nupur tomar onno pa khali in solo. Shakil Mahmud, on the other hand, spontaneously performed Arnob’s popular number Shey je boshe ache eke eka in harmony with other instruments played by other musicians present.
The show was jam-packed with audience comprising mostly of youths and adolescents. ‘We seldom get opportunities to enjoy piano recitals in Dhaka. I am really pleased to attend the programme,’ Shaina Chowdhury, an A-level student told New Age.
Tanmoy Rahman Jemmy, who is also a student, remarked, ‘Most of the artistes are students but
they are indeed very skilled in performing. Another good thing about the show is that it offered the
audience a great opportunity to listen to songs in three different languages as well as instrumental pieces on an individual
occasion.’
