World Philosophy Day was observed on Thursday at Dhaka University with the theme ‘united society, sustainable planet’. DU philosophy and Dev Centre of Philosophical Research organised the daylong function, inaugurated by DU vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique.
Marking the day, a colourful procession was brought out on the campus followed by a discussion at Teacher-Student Centre.
Speaking at the discussion, Arefin Siddique called upon the new generation to build up a united society imbued with the sprit of independence war applying philosophical insight.
The new generation should realise the political philosophy for what many people embraced martyrdom in 1971.
Professor emeritus Serajul Islam Chowdhury presented the keynote paper on the occasion.
Philosophy department chairperson Latifa Begum presided over the function, also addressed, among others, by pro-vice-chancellor (academic) Nasreen Ahmad and treasurer Kamal Uddin.
World Philosophy Day is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of November as per the UNESCO declaration.
