Yaba aggression has recently swept the country without any let up. No measures can keep the drug dealers at bay. Meanwhile, police nabbed a drug dealer from KB Das Road in old part of Dhaka city on Thursday night. Moreover, police seized 39,000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from the possession of the arrestee, who was identified as Sabbir Hossain alias Sabbir. A massive quantity of the vicious drug Yaba has been reportedly entering the city since long many days from Myanmar through Cox’s Bazar and Teknaf routes. The drug barons usually remain beyond the police dragnet. The drug dealers supply the illegal drugs including Yaba tablets to every nook and cranny of the country. The younger set of people become victims of the drugs. Besides, another team of BGB conducted a raid at Kewra Bazar along the Naf River and arrested two Myanmar nationals along with 20,000 pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 60 lakh. In another incident a team of BGB conduced a raid in New Jettyghat area of the Teknaf around 9pm Thursday and recovered 70,000 pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 2.10 crore from the area. However, none was arrested as the smugglers managed to flee sensing the presence of the border guards. Briefing reporters at DMP media centre in the city of Dhaka on Friday, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Wari Division Sayed Nurul Islam said Sabbir brought the Yaba tablets from Cox’s Bazar. Tipped off, a team of Sutrapur thana police conducted a drive in front of Farashganj Bibika Mazar at BK Das Road at about 10:30 pm and detained Sabbir when he was heading towards Shyambazar carrying the drug consignment in his motorbike, the DC Wari added. During preliminary interrogation, Sabbir revealed that he had been involved in supplying illegal drugs, including Yaba tablets, to various districts, he said. UNB adds: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh and police in separate drives arrested three people and recovered 94,000 pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk2.82 crore from different parts of Teknaf upazila on Thursday. Ataur Rahman Khandaker, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station, said acting on secret information, a team of police led by Sikandar Ali, second officer of the police station, conducted a drive in Kulalpara area of the upazila around 8 pm and arrested a man along with 4,000 pieces of Yaba tablet worth Tk12 lakh. The arrested was identified as Nurul Alam, 23, son of Abu Bakkar of the area. The arrestees were identified as Aman Ullah, 24, son of Sultan, and Yusuf Ali, 30, son of Yunus Ali of Mangdow Dailpara of Myanmar. Separate cases have been filed in this connection.
