The yearlong golden jubilee progrmme of Dhaka University’s Mass Communication and Journalism department began on Thursday.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique formally inaugurated the 50th anniversary programme of the department at TSC in the morning.
As part of the yearlong progrmmes, the Journalism department will arrange seminars, prize distribution and cultural functions.
On the opening day, the students and teachers of the department brought out a rally from Aparajeyo Bangla that terminated in front of TSC (Teachers Students Centre) after parading the campus.
A discussion was also held at the TSC auditorium in the afternoon.
Chaired by head of the Journalism department Prof Akhter Sultana, the discussion was addressed, among others, by DU VC Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, dean of Social Sciences Faculty Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed, Prof Dr Sakhwat Ali Khan and general secretary of Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni Association Swapan Kumar Das.
Addressing the discussion, Prof Arefin Siddique said the history of Dhaka University’s Mass Communication and Journalism department and the history of the country’s journalism are one and unique. “This department teaches the students to be honest.”
He urged the students of the department to pursue the truth and enlighten the society with the light of the truth.
