The Bangladesh national cricket team members were introduced to yoga, a form of meditation and exercise, in their latest skill training session, vice-captain Mahmudullah said on Wednesday.
‘We started doing Yoga,’ Mahmudullah said.
‘It helps improve our concentration. We are trying to do that seriously though I am not sure about the outcome.’
Yoga, an ancient Indian practice that promotes strength, flexibility and meditation, has become popular in recent years among professional athletes in a variety of sports, including football and basketball.
The Tigers have started their training camp with 12 players ahead of their forthcoming home series against New Zealand. Other cricketers currently on duty with national age-level teams and the Bangladesh A team are to join the camp after their respective tours.
Mahmudullah added that he is looking forward to improving his batting after not being able to produce any remarkable knocks in Test matches during the last two series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
‘I am putting more emphasis on my batting because it was not good during the last four innings,’ he said.
‘During batting, I need to become choosier when selecting my shots.’
‘Our batting coach, Corey Richards, had given me some tasks before leaving for England and I am working on that,’ he added.
‘Hopefully you will the reflection in the next series.’
Mahmudullah also said that the national team is looking forward to playing some practice matches ahead of the series against New Zealand.
