The budgetary allocation for youth and sports is likely to reach Tk 263.47 crore, up by Tk 23.1 crore from the figure of the outgoing financial year, as the finance minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith is set to propose the national budget for the 2013–2014 financial year in the parliament today.
But the most of the money will be allocated for youth development. The National Sports Council may have an allocation of Tk 20 crore. The sports council will need to depend on its own resources, mainly rental sources, to meet its internal expenses.
The sports council will spend Tk 58.5 crore on different projects and Tk 72.02 crore on structural development.
In the 2013–14 financial year, the sports council will take up some big projects for the ICC T-20 World Cup in
the next year. It will spend Tk 20 crore on the restructuring of the Sylhet Divisional Stadium, which is selected for the forthcoming World Cup event.
The council will set up and renovate a few sports structures. The government will propose an allocation of Tk 5 crore for the ongoing Gopalganj project, Tk 18.3 crore 30 lakh for six districts stadium and two women’s divisional complex. The government will allocate Tk 5.7 crore for the establishment of a football stadium at Tongi.
