One of the three robbery suspects wounded in a ‘gunfight’ near Golap Shah Mazar in the capital on July 2 died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday.
The victim, Mohammad Yasin Bapari, 27, of Madaripur died at about 1:00pm while he was kept under observation after a surgery at the hospital, the hospital sources said. The family, however, alleged that the plainclothes law enforcers had interrupted his treatment at the hospital.
‘They had threatened him while he was on the hospital bed…and they scolded him why he was alive even after the gunfight,’ alleged his widow Harufa Begum.
Detective Branch assistant commissioner (south) Jahidul Haque Talukdar, who led the operation on July 2, brushed aside the allegation.
On July 2, a police constable and three alleged robbers were wounded during the ‘gunfight’ near Golap Shah Mazar, a few hundred yards away from the Police Headquarters, the Detective Branch of the police said.
Medical staff at the hospital said Yasin’s condition was critical as he had two bullet wounds in the belly and waist.
