Artisans from Rajshahi, Manikganj, Nawabganj and other parts of the country will display Lakkhishora, Shokher Hari, Shika, Shola and more at the festival.
To mark the 96th birth anniversary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), University of Dhaka is holding a three-day ‘Zainul Festival’ at the FFA premises.
The festival begins today and will continue till December 31. The event will include a ‘pitha utshab’ (rice cake fair), painting exhibition, discussion, procession, award-giving programme and highlight traditional artisans.
Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique will inaugurate the festival. Jahanara Abedin (widow of Zainul Abedin) will be present as special guest on the occasion. Professor Matlub Ali, Dean of FFA, will preside over the programme.
As part of the ‘Zainul Festival’, Dhaka University will honour Mohammad Kibria and veteran Japanese printmaker Noriko Yanagisawa. The latter is a Professor at Musashino University, Japan.
As part of the festival, FFA is also going to hold a ten-day group art exhibition at Zainul Gallery where teachers and students will be participating. Students will exhibit their artworks including prints, paintings and sculptures at the faculty premises. Traditional artisans will display their crafts — Lakkhishora, Shokher Hari, Shika, Shola and more. The artisans are coming from Rajshahi, Manikganj, Nawabganj and other parts of the country.
