BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain on Sunday said as part of implementing a blue print to destroy BNP, the conspirators in a planned way murdered the founder of the party, President Ziaur Rahman.
“The conspirators are still active to destroy BNP. In phases at first they had killed President Ziaur Rahman; later the conspirators created the 1/11 in a bid to demolish BNP politically through holding December 29 stage-managed election. But the conspirators would not be successful to destroy the ideology and philosophy of late President Ziaur Rahman,” he said, while addressing a discussion to mark the 73rd birth anniversary of Ziaur Rahman held at Engineers Institute in the city yesterday.
However, BNP Chairpersons Begum Khaleda Zia, who attended the function, did not take part in the discussion. BNP Standing Committee Members RA Gani, M Shamsul Islam, Moudud Ahmed and Moshrraf Hossain, Brigadier General Hannan Shah (Retd), MK Anwar and other leaders also attended the discussion.
Regarding transit-to-India issue, Delwar said, “In the greater interest of the country, we all have to be united so that ruling Awami League would be able to provide transit facility to the neighbouring countries. We are very much sure that the new government wouldn’t be able to implement its electoral manifesto,” he said.
Delwar called upon the leaders and activists to be united and work together for strengthening party activities.
Moudud Ahmed said government should refrain from changing the constitution. “It is better not to change the basic structure of the constitution,” he added.
Khandaker Moshrraf Hossain said the people of the country will never fulfill the aspiration of a certain quarter who want restoration of 1972 constitution. “The political party which is still dreaming for implementing BAKSAL, will never be successful,” he added.
Meanwhile, BNP has chalked out an elaborate weeklong programme to observe the 73rd anniversary of birth of its founder president Ziaur Rahman today (Monday). The programme includes discussion meeting, Milad Mahfil, art contest for children, blood donation and photo exhibition. As part of programme Floral wreaths will be placed and special prayer offered at the mazar of Ziaur Rahman today (Monday).
