Nomination form for veteran Awami League (AL) leader Zillur Rahman has been collected from Election Commission (EC) secretariat for contesting country’s presidential election to be held on February 16.
Chief Whip Abdus Shahid collected the form from EC Additional Secretary Rafiqul Islam yesterday afternoon.
The AL-led grand alliance has already proposed Zillur Rahman’s name as its nominee for the country’s president.
Shahid told reporters at EC Secretariat that he would go straight to Zillur Rahman’s house in Gulshan with the form. After being filled in, it will be submitted to the chief election commissioner, who is the returning officer for the presidential poll.
Meanwhile, the deadline for submitting election expenditure statements by candidates of parliamentary polls ended yesterday.
As per the Representation of the People Order (RPO) 1972, candidates of parliamentary election have to submit their election expenditure statements to the returning officers concerned within 30 days of the publication of poll results through government gazette. A copy of the statement has also to be sent to the EC by mail.
The result of the ninth parliamentary polls was published in a gazette on January 1.
Election expenditure reports of around 100 candidates, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reached the EC by mails, sources at the EC Secretariat said.
