Coach Allan Butcher feels Zimbabwe have a good chance to put a brake on Bangladesh’s winning spree in the upcoming five-match one-day series beginning on December 1.
Bangladesh, who never lost a series to Zimbabwe at home in the last five years, will begin the series as the firm favourites having beaten a full-strength New Zealand side 4-0 in their backyard earlier in October.
Zimbabwe lost a series to South Africa 3-0 during the same period but took some positives from the form of some of their top-order batsmen. The side, familiar with Bangladesh’s conditions and players, are ready to reverse their fate this time, said their English coach Butcher.
‘We are approaching this tour with some positives as we have got some good reviews for our performances in South Africa, though we didn’t win any matches,’ Butcher said in at the official press briefing on Sunday.
‘I am not going to promise that we will win the series as Bangladesh will be pretty confident as well. When we went to South Africa we felt that we didn’t had much chance to win the series, but we feel a bit differently here,’ said Butcher.
Butcher said the series will provide them a chance to show the world that they are now ready to return to Test cricket.
‘We have already been granted a Test match, I think it’s against you guys in June. I can perceive people will take notice should we win the series against Bangladesh that just demolished New Zealand,’ said Butcher
Skipper Elton Chigumbura hoped his batsmen would learn quickly to play on the slow and low wicket in Bangladesh
‘We know the wicket will be low and slow and we are really working on it,’ Chigumbura said.
