BTS makes history at 2022 American Music Awards

BTS, a group from South Korea, became the first K-pop band to win an American Music Award. For the fourth time, they have won the award for “Favorite Pop Duo/Group,” and they are also the first recipients of the award for “Favorite K-Pop Artist.”

The boy band took up the trophy for “Favorite Social Artist” at the 2018 American Music Awards. And they made history as the first K-pop group to ever perform at a Grammys show. The popular group has been on a winning spree for five consecutive years until this year.

Singer Akbar dies

Singer Akbar Ali died while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the capital on Sunday. He was 54.

He is survived by his widow and daughter.

The singer’s widow Kaniz Fatima told New Age that Akbar Ali died at around 3:00pm at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Sunday.

Akbar Ali came into the limelight in 2003 after performing at a popular programme named Ityadi, where he rendered the song titled Ekdin Pakhi Ure Jabe Je Akashe. He also earned huge acclaim singing the song titled Tomar Haat Pakhar Batase.

Chirkutt’s Sumi to perform at Womex 22 and Oslo World Music Festival

Sharmin Sultana Sumi, a well-known performer and the vocalist for the band Chirkutt, will represent Bangladesh at Womex 22, the largest music convention in the world, for the second time. Lisbon, Portugal, will be the location of the occasion. The five-day event will begin on October 19 and run through October 23.

This month is going to be busy for the “Udhao” singer because she will also be attending Norway’s renowned “Oslo World Music Festival,” where some of the biggest bands in the world will perform. The event will take place from October 31 until November 6.

BTS members can perform while serving in the military

Pop titans BTS are now going to officially fulfill their mandatory military service duties but the pop group can participate in ’national-level’ events while serving their military terms, the South Korean defense ministry has announced.

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, a spokesperson for the Korean Defense Ministry said the members of the group will be able to take part in specific “national-level” events even as they complete their service, according to The Korea Times.

Kabir Suman concerts in Dhaka will turn up at Engineers Institute

Renowned singer Kabir Suman was scheduled to perform in Dhaka for the first time in nearly 13 years on October 15, 18, and 21 and tickets for all three dates had already sold out.

But yesterday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) stated that because the location is a Key Point Installation, they had not granted clearance from their part for the event to take place there (KPI).

“The Bangladesh National Museum is a Key Point Installation, and this is why we did not grant permission for the event”, said DMP Commissioner MD Shafiqul Islam.

Kabir Suman will play three solo concerts at the Bangladesh National Museum in Dhaka on October 15, 18, and 21 at 2:00pm, 3:00pm, and 4:30pm, respectively. The event schedules and ticket prices were posted on Kabir Suman’s Facebook page. Beginning at 700 Tk, tickets are available.

Loretta Lynn, a pioneer of American country music whose candid lyrics that explore women’s experiences with sex, infidelity and pregnancy resonated across the country, has passed away. She was 90 years old.

She died peacefully in her sleep at her ranch in Tennessee on Tuesday morning, her family said in a statement sent to AFP.

Lynn saw a number of her edgy tracks banned by country music stations, but over the course of more than six decades in the business, she became a standard-bearer of the genre and its most decorated female artist ever.

Sir Elton John to perform at the White House on Friday

Elton John will perform at a unique event called “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme” at the White House, Friday (Sept. 23) . The event is a joint effort between A&E Networks and The History Channel.

The concert and related event, which will feature John performing for 2,000 invited guests on the South Lawn of the White House, are intended to “celebrate the unifying and healing power of music, laud the life and work of Sir Elton John, and recognize the daily history-makers in the audience, including teachers, nurses, frontline workers, mental health activists, students, LGBTQ+ champions, and more,” according to CNN, citing a White House press release.

Kabir Suman to stage musical performance in Dhaka

Three events are planned in Dhaka in October, featuring the musical performance of celebrated Indian Bengali singer, songwriter and composer Kabir Suman.

The program’s organizer, Peephole, confirmed the information to New Age. The music shows will be held at the Bangladesh National Museum in the capital.

Fuad Bin Omar, a partner of Peephole, said, ‘He has agreed to perform in three programmes scheduled to be held on October 15, 18 and 21. He has been practising Khayal songs for the past few years. He will perform Khayal songs on October Besides, he will perform modern Bangla songs in the other two events.’
