A young man allegedly hacked his elder brother’s wife to death and also injured his brother over a trifling matter in the city’s Sabujbagh area yesterday.
The victim was identified as Rabeya Begum, 25, wife of Mostafizur Rahman, 32.
Police quoting family members of the victim said Shahin, 20, had an altercation with his elder brother Mustafizur Rahman over a silly matter yesterday. At one stage, he hacked Mustafiz with a sharp weapon. As Rabeya came forward to save her husband, the seemingly deranged man also hacked her.
As parents of Shahin try to hold him, he (Shahin) bit his father Azizul Haque and fled the scene.
Rabeya and her husband were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Rabeya dead at about 9:50 am. Mustafiz was later shifted to another hospital from DMCH.
The victim Rabeya left behind her two kids-2 year old Mridola and one-year-old Shyam.
