At least 12 people were killed and 43 injured in road accidents in five districts on their ways back to Dhaka or elsewhere on Saturday and Sunday after celebrating Eid.
New Age correspondent in Comilla reported that six people, including three members of a family, were killed, and 31 others injured in four accidents at Harisardar, Raipur and Doulatpur of Daudkandi and at Harisardar of Chouddagram.
A taxicab driver was killed and 20 people were injured as a Comilla-bound ‘Papia Paribahan’ bus hit the taxi on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Doulatpur of Daudkani upazila about 2:30 pm.
Among the 20 injured, three members of a family — Hashu Bala, 80, Anupama 12, Riva Rani 40, — who were on the taxi-cub, were declared dead at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A Comilla-bound ‘Upakul Royal Super Bus’ from Dhaka rammed a microbus at Raipur in Daudkandi at about 2:00pm, leaving its driver killed and nine members of a family injured. They were on the microbus.
Five passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were injured when a Dhaka-bound ‘Shohagh Paribahan’ bus crashed into the three-wheeler at Sahidnagar at about 1:00 pm.
A minor boy, Mohammad Hasan, 13, of Nayapara village of Chouddagram was killed when a Chittagong-bound bus from Comilla ran him over while crossing the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Harisardar.
New Age correspondent in Noakhali reported that two unidentified men were killed and four others injured seriously in a road accident at Sonaimuri-Chatkhil road under Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali when a Chatkhil bound a bus collided head-on with a CNG –run auto around 4:00pm.
New Aghe correspondent in Barisal reported that a bus driver Badal Mia, 38, was killed after his bus plunged into roadside ditch on Barisal-Dhaka highway at Barisal airport police station.
In Savar, a pedestrian — Imdadul Houqe, 50, of Munshiganj village under Jaldhaka upazila in Nilphamari was killed near bus stop on Nabinagar-Chandra highway at Ashulia.
In Laxmipur, two people – CNG-run auto- rickshaw driver Yusuf Hossain Chutu, 28, and Omar Faruk, 30, — were killed and eight others injured in a traffic accident in Laxmipur bus terminal area on Saturday noon.
