At least 15 people were injured in a clash between workers of a readymade garment (RMG) factory and police at Chasara in the city on Tuesday.
The injured include president of Bangladesh Garment Sramik Trade Union Centre Montu Gosh, president of Narayanganj district unit of Communist Party of Bangladesh Hafizul Islam and Gonosanghati Andolon leader Amal Akash. Fuji Knitwear, an export-oriented sweater factory, was declared closed on August 27.
When the factory authorities started distributing the dues of its 900 workers in the morning some the workers
staged demonstration at Chasara Shaheed Minar and demanded reopening of the factory. As the agitating workers lied down on the road in the area halting the vehicular movement, police tried to remove them.
At one stage, the law enforcers charged baton on the workers, triggering a clash between them which left at least 15 people injured.
The injured people received treatment at different local clinics.
