Fifteen eminent personalities, including journalist Golam Sarwar, have been named for the ‘Ekushey Padak-2014’ for their outstanding contributions to the society.
The ministry of cultural affairs announced the names of the recipients in a media statement yesterday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to formally confer the honours at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on February 20. The other recipients of the award are Shamsul Huda and late Dr. Badrul Alam for contributions to the language movement, Samarjit Roy Chwodhury, Ramkanai Das, late SM Solaiman and Keramat Mawla for their contributions to arts, Dr. Enamul Haque and Dr. Anupam Sen for contribution to research and education respectively.
Jamil Chowdhury, Belal Chowdhury, Rashid Haider, Biprodash Borua and late Abdus Shakur were selected for the award in recognition to their contribution to language and literature.
Professor Dr. Mujibur Rahman was nominated for his contribution to social welfare.
The award recipients will receive Tk 100,000, an 18-carat gold medal weighing 3 tolas and a certificate of honour.
