Two Bangladeshi men were beaten to death on Tuesday by a mob at Chichingpara in Meghalaya in India after they reportedly entered the Indian territory illegally.
The deceased were identified as Hemanta Koch, 22, son of Srikanta Koch, and Shital Koch, 24, son of Premananda Koch of village Rangtia in Jhinaigati upazila.
Local people said five Bangladeshis from the village entered India through Haldigram border point earlier at noon.
Branding them as cattle lifters, the Indian villagers chased them towards the border while three of them successfully crossed the border, but the two ill-fated men were caught and beaten by them severely, leaving them dead on the spot, according to information trickled down from across the border.
The Border Guard Bangladesh 27 battalion chief, Javed Sultan, said they came to know about the incident from the local people.
