Faster Than Speed of Light
2 Bangladeshis claim formulating equations
Two Rajshahi physicists yesterday claimed to have formulated three equations and several fundamental constants suggesting that subatomic particles move faster than the speed of light.
Speaking at a press conference at Juberi Bhaban of Rajshahi University (RU), one of the physicists Dr M Osman Gani Talukder said they analysed the existing theories to reach their findings.
Dr Mushfiq Ahmad, another physicist who retired from RU Physics department in 2010, was present.
Much of modern physics depends on the idea that nothing can exceed the speed of light, which was laid out in part by Albert Einstein in his theory of special relativity.
On September 23, Cern, the world’s largest physics lab, published its experiment results showing that neutrino particles move 60 billionths of a second faster than what they would have done if travelling at the speed of light, says a BBC report.
However, Dr Osman, a former teacher of RU applied physics and electronic engineering department, claimed their findings would not contradict Einstein, rather, help complete the theory.
Dr Osman did not reveal the results of their research in detail but said, as per international tradition, they would reveal their findings in an international scientific conference, to be organised in Dhaka soon.
In a written speech, they sought assistance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard.
Congratulating the physicists at Cern, Dr Osman said, on September 22, they sent a thesis containing two of the equations to a journal of American Institute of Physics.
He said he published a book “An alternative approach to the relativity” in 2001 in this connection. Dr Mushfiq also wrote on his concepts in his PhD thesis at RU.
