Two Bangladeshi cattle traders were shot dead and two others injured by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Putkhali border under Benapole Police Station of Jessore early Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Habibur Rahman,25, son of Chand Ali of Barupota village, and Faruque Hossain,26, son of Sobet Ali at Basatpur colony under the police stallion.Shafi Uddin, subedar of Putkhali camp of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 23 Battalion, said when a group of Bangladeshi cattle traders were returning home along with cattle, the BSF members from Angrail camp of India fired shots on them at the border point around 12:30am, leaving Habibur dead on the spot and three others injured.
However, the other cattle traders managed to bring the body of the deceased into Bangladesh territory and the injured were admitted to different local hospitals where Faruque died later.
Meanwhile, Benapole port police sent the bodies to district sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Confirming the incident, BGB 23 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Tayeful Hoque said a letter had been sent to the BSF strongly protesting the killings.
