Two foreign diplomats yesterday said they will urge the government to change the controversial provision in the Anti-Corruption Commission law, which requires the ACC to get government permission before filing a graft case against any public servant.
German Ambassador to Bangladesh Albrecht Conze and Japanese Ambassador Shiro Sadoshima said this at a meeting with ACC Chairman Badiuzzaman and two of its commissioners at the graft watchdog’s office in the capital’s Segunbagicha, ACC Commissioner Mohammad Shahabuddin told The Daily Star.
The two envoys expressed frustration over introduction of the provision in the ACC law.
Their reaction came three days after parliament ratified the ACC act incorporating the controversial provision.
During the meeting yesterday, the two diplomats said the controversial provision is contrary to the country’s constitution and would weaken the ACC.
The ACC officials also expressed their disappointment over the issue.
