Two schoolgirls drowned in a pond at Char Hasan Hossain village in Ramgati upazila on Friday. The deceased were identified as Shahnaj Akhter Lipi, a Class-V student of and daughter of Mahbubur Rahman, and Zobaida Akhter Meem, a Class-II student and daughter of Momin Ullah of the village. Locals said Lipi and Meem slipped into the pond while playing on the bank of the water body near their houses at noon. Later, locals rescued the girls from the pond and took them to Alexander Health Complex where doctors declared the duo dead.
