Two leaders of Juba League, an associate organization of the ruling Awami League, were hacked to death by rival group people at Gandagram village under Shazahanpur upazila of the district on Sunday over a land dispute. Officer-in-Charge of Sajahanpur Police Station Mahmudul Alam confirmed the incident and said police arrested Abu Bakar Siddique Ripon, vice-president of Bogra District Sechcha Sebok League, another associate organization of Awami League, in connection with the murders.
The deceased were identified as Maznu Miah, 40, son of Sukur Ali allies Kokha Miah, executive member of the district Juba League and president of Fultola Bazar Committee and Nahid Hasan, 30, son of Dulu Miah, who was also a Juba League member of the local unit.
Police said there had been a long-standing dispute over a piece of land between them. The murder occurred at about 2.00 pm and police rushed to the spot receiving information from a brother of one of the deceased, Manzu Miah. The bodies were sent to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical Collage and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police said the two rival groups had been influential and controlling many affairs for long in the area. Local Juba League leader Shaheen was hacked to death on May 24, 2011. The main accused in that murder case another Juba League leader Shamim Alam Bush was also hacked to death by rival group on December 19, 2012.
