Two people, including a college student, were killed and seven others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Jhenidah and Narail on Thursday and yesterday.
Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, a woman died as a microbus ran her over on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Baratakia area of Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong on Thursday night.
The identity of the deceased, aged around 45 years, could not be known immediately.
Highway police said the speeding Dhaka-bound microbus crushed the woman while she was crossing the highway in the area at around 9:00pm.
The driver, with his vehicle, managed to flee the spot.
The police sent the body to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Jhenidah, a college student was killed and three others were injured as a speeding bus hit a standing bus in Jhenidah town yesterday morning.
The deceased Biplob Hossain, 23, son of Khalilur Rahman of Shakhadaridah village in Harinakundo upazila, was a third year student of Government KC College.
The injured are Jahanara Begum of Kalikapur village of the town, Felison Nessa of the same village, and Abbas Uddin of Kumrabaria village of sadar upazila.
They were admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital.
Jhenidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury said Biplob was run over by the speeding bus while he was crossing the road at Chuadanga bus stand in the town.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Narail, four people were severely injured in a collision between two motorbikes on Lohagara-Narail road at Muldair village in the sadar upazila yesterday.
Locals said the two motorcycles collided on the road around 12:00 noon, leaving four motorbike riders critically injured.
Locals took the inured Modhu, 28, and Masum, 30, to Narail Sadar Hospital. The two others were admitted to Lohagara health complex.
