Two more bodies were recovered yesterday from the Turag river at Amin Bazar in Savar where a bus plunged into the river on Sunday.
Rescuers have so far recovered 13 bodies.
The bodies rescued yesterday were identified as Maulana Hafizur Rahman, 45, Imam of Pangu Hospital Jame Mosque in the capital, and Lalon Sarkar, 23, of Agoiljhara in Barisal.
Yesterday around 7:00am, Hafizur’s body was seen floating near the spot where the bus sank while Lalon’s body was found in the river near Kalatiapara village, about 2 km from the spot.
Hafizur’s son Faysal recognised the body of his father while Sarkar’s by his cousin Mohammad Amir Hossain.
The rescuers wrapped up their operation Tuesday night, but after the two bodies were found, a team of 12 divers of the fire brigade led by Deputy Director Lutfur Rahman reached the spot yesterday.
Fire brigade sources said they were conducting the search operation again as locals said some bodies might have got stuck in the riverbed.
Major Mohammad Shakil Ahmed who was leading an army rescue team on the spot said two helicopters of the Army Aviation hovered over the area for four hours from 10:00am in search of floating bodies.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rabbi Miah of Savar said local administration continued the search operation yesterday with eight boats.
Meanwhile, Hossain Ali Sumon, son of a missing passenger, Feroza Begum, said he along with some relatives searched for his mother’s body at Basila, Kholamora, Kamrangir char and other adjacent areas but to no avail.
Earlier on Tuesday, rescue teams salvaged the sunken bus about 54 hours after the incident while it took 29 hours to locate the bus under water.
Following the accident, seven passengers were rescued alive, but one of them died at a Savar clinic.
