Two students of the newly established Kushtia Medical College drowned in the River Gorai in the town on Friday. The victims were Rifat, 18, and Milon 19. Both of them were first year students of the college. Rifat hailed from Comilla and Millon from Dinajpur.
The police said 10 students, five male and five female, of the college came to visit an embankment of Renwick-Jajneswar & Company at noon.
Amid rainfall, they went to take bath in the river at about 1:00pm when five of them went missing.
Local people rescued three of them while two others — Rifat and Milon — remained missing till filing of this report at 7:00pm.
A team of firefighters from Khulna arrived in Kushtia in the evening to rescue the missing.
In another incident, Shafat, 8, student of Mission School and son of Musa of Tali Para in the town, drowned while taking bath at a pond of Kushtia Government College in the town in the morning.
