Two young women allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from ceiling fans at Dakkhinkhan and Pallabi in the city Tuesday night.
Dakkhinkhan police recovered the body of Rajoni Akhter, 18, daughter of Abdur Rahman from her rented flat at Nagaria Bari of Dakkhinkhan at about 8:00pm.
Rajoni, a telephone operator of a private company at Uttara in the city was in a relationship with her colleague Alamgir who broke up with her recently, said her father.
Alamgir’s rejection may have led her to commit suicide, suspected Abdur Rahman.
Rajoni arrived to the capital from Jhikargacha, Jessore two years ago after she got divorced from her husband, he added.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of another woman who allegedly committed suicide inside the bedroom of her apartment in the city’s Pallabi.
The deceased Zinnat Sultana Beauty, 37, wife of Taslim Kabir hanged herself from a ceiling fan Tuesday night when she was home alone.
Police recovered the body at about 11:40pm and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy, Ananto Kumar Roy, sub inspector of Pallabi Police Station told The Daily Star.
Family members claimed, Zinnat had been suffering from schizophrenia and was undergoing treatment for several years.
