The newly drilled 20th well of Titas Gas Field in Brahmanbaria started supplying 10 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd) experimentally to the national grid on Wednesday.
The well, which has been drilled for the last nine months at the field in Brahmanbaria municipality, will go in full production at 12mmcfd within a week, said Acting Project Director Azmal Haque of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Ltd (BGFCL).
With this one, BGFCL will operate 35 wells in its six fields–Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, Narsingdi, Meghna and Kamta–which will provide 801mmcfd to the national grid or more than 37 percent of the total gas supply in the country.
Bangladesh currently produces about 2,000mmcfd on average against a demand of 2,700mmcfd.
Officials said BGFCL would drill four more wells soon. Meanwhile, the six BGFCL gas fields are also producing 465 barrels of condensed oil to meet the country’s fuel need partly.
