A housewife was hacked to death allegedly by her son at Kadamtali in the capital on Tuesday morning.
The victim was Nurjahan Begum, 42, wife of Mahmudur Rahman, a retired army man.
The family said Nurjahan Begum had an altercation with her eldest son, Tanvir Hasan Shovon, 23, over a trifling matter in their house at Rayerbagh Merajnagar about 10:00am.
At one point, Shovon brought a sharp weapon from the kitchen and hacked his mother.
Mahmudur took Nurjahan to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
The family said Shovon was mentally ill. He went into hiding soon after the incident, the police said
A case was filed.
