The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has imposed a 24-hour ban on movement of 12 types of vehicles in the capital today. The ban would be effective from Saturday midnight to Sunday midnight, said a press release issued by the DMP and signed by its deputy commissioner Masudur Rahman. The release said baby-taxi, CNG-run auto-rickshaw, easy bike, jeep, bus, taxicab, pickup, truck, microbus, private car, tempo and motorcycle would be within the purview of the ban.
With the permission of the returning officer, the ban would be flexible for candidates, agents and local and foreign observers, it says.
The release also said that vehicles of journalists, ambulance and public service-related vehicles including electricity, gas, posts and telecommunications would be outside of the purview of the ban.
The release also asked people to carry organisations’ identify cards or Election Commission’s permission along with them in related cases.
