Judges tell president

President Iajuddin Ahmed yesterday urged the High Court judges to quickly dispose of the cases pending with the court.
He made the suggestion when six newly appointed judges of the High Court Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
The judges apprised the president that over 3 lakh cases are pending with the High Court Division.
Presently, there are 67 judges in the High Court Division. “It is a difficult task to dispose of the pending cases. It needs more judges for quick disposal of those cases,” the president was told.
The six Judges–Justice Md Delwar Hossain, Justice Md Azizul Haque, Justice Md Abdus Samad, Justice AKM Abdul Hakim, Justice Sayeda Afsar Jahan and Justice Borhan Uddin–took oath on November 16.
The president gave them a patient hearing and also agreed with them that more judges are needed for quick disposal of the pending cases.
He called upon the newly appointed judges to discharge their duties “more sincerely to reduce the sufferings of the common people”.
Secretary of the President’s Office Md Sirajul Islam, Military Secretary to the President Major General Mohammad Ruhul Amin and President’s Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were present.
