Three robbers died after mass beating in Rangpur and Munshiganj early Saturday.
Two highway robbers, including the ringleader, were killed in a lynch-mob attack in Paglapir area of Sadar upazila in Rangpur early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Saju Mia, 40, and Badsha Mia, 34. Both of them hailed from Chowdhurypara in Gangachhara upazila of the district.
The police and local people said a gang of 7/8 bandits blocked Rangpur-Dinajpur highway placing trees on it about 12:00am and tried to loot valuables of passengers of vehicles.
Local people along with the passengers chased the gang and caught two of them — Saju and Badsha — while the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, the angry mob gave them a good beating, leaving the duo seriously injured.
The police took them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where attending doctors declared them dead.
Describing Saju as the ringleader, Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge Shahabuddin Khalifa, said he was accused in a number of cases, including mugging and robbery.
A case was filed.
In Munshiganj, an alleged robber was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Dalalpara in the sadar upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sahabuddin Sabu, 30.
Sahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of sadar police station said a gang of robbers stormed into the house of Hekmat Bepari, a teacher, around 1:00am.
They looted valuables, including five tolas of gold, and Tk 80,000 in cash from the house after beating up Hekmat Bepari who tried to resist them.
When the inmates raised a hue and cry local people came in and caught one of the robbers, Sabu, after a hot chase. Later, local people gave him a good thrashing, leaving him critically injured.
The injured was taken to Munshiganj Hospital where he died early Saturday morning.
The police conducted a drive in Rampal and Goshairbag of Muktarpur and arrested three robbers who were involved in the robbery and recovered TK 9,000 from their possession. However, the other accomplices of Sabu managed to flee.
A case was filed in this connection.
