A Dhaka court sentenced three men to death yesterday for abducting and killing a nine-year old boy in May 2011 at the capital’s Mirpur.
Salman Sami, son of Mohammad Hossain and student of class IV at Siddhartha High School, was abducted on May 27, 2011 from Darussalam.
Three days later, police recovered his body stuffed in a plastic bag from a water body at Kaundia in Mirpur.
Sami’s father filed an abduction case with Darussalam Police Station on May 30, 2011 followed by the arrests of the four kidnappers shortly.
Mohammad Rakib, 20, Mohammad Saikat Khan, 21 and Mohammad Jane-Alam, 20 received death sentences while Mohammad Parvez Chowdhury, 18, was acquitted as the charge brought against him was not proved.
Judge Mohammad Motahar Hossain of Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 handed down the sentence in presence of the convicts at a packed courtroom.
The convicts can appeal with the higher court within 30 days challenging the legality of the trial court’s verdict.
The investigation officer of the case pressed charges against the four on October 17, 2011.
