A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday sentenced three private university students to two years’ imprisonment for blackmailing a schoolgirl by capturing indecent video.
The convicted, Parvez Sarkar, 20, BBA student of South East University, Mahbub Hasan Mohobbot, 20, and Udoy Sarma Utso, 20, BBA students of American International University of Bangladesh (AIUB) were sent to Dhaka Central Jail, said Executive Magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha who led the mobile court.
The victim, a class VIII student, was handed over to her parents.
Anwar Pasha said one of the students is a cousin of the victim. He called the girl over phone around 9:30am to come to Uttara and took her to the flat the youths lived at Road-11 under Sector-11.
They captured the indecent video by force and threatened her saying they would upload the video on the Internet if she failed to give them Tk 50,000 within the day, he added. Later the girl informed Rab of the incident.
A team of Rab-1 raided the apartment and found the videos in two memory chips of their cell phone. The arrestees admitted their crime to the court, he said.
