At least 30 people were injured in clashes between BNP-Jamaat activists and police during the ‘black-flag procession’ across the country Monday.
The main opposition BNP announced the programme all across the country including the capital Dhaka to protest against the holding of a cabinet meeting by the ministers who had earlier resigned. BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi had announced the programme at a media briefing held at the party’ central office at Naya Paltan in the capital Sunday.
At least 10 people, including a policeman, were injured in a clash between Jamaat-e-Islami activists and police at Mirpur-10 in the city Monday.
Jasimuddin, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) of Mirpur division, said that Jamaat activists had brought out a black-flag procession near Ideal School at Mirpur-10 at about 9:00am.
Police fired several rounds of rubber bullets and resorted to baton-charge to disperse the procession.
The Jamaat activists then threw brick chips on police triggering a clash that left 10 people, including constable Tofazzal of Mirpur police station, injured.
However, witnesses said of the ten injured, two sustained bullet wounds.
In Rajshahi, at least 15 people were injured in a clash between BNP leaders and activists and police at the city’s Moni Chattar area at around 12 pm.
