At least 31 more case of human anthrax infection were detected at Charkadira of Kamalnagar in Lakshmipur on Saturday.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research is, however, yet to confirm the cases as anthrax infection. The institute till date also did not confirm two anthrax infection cases detected in Gazipur and Chittagong.
The IEDCR director, Mahmudur Rahman, said the total number of human anthrax infection cases in 17 upazilas of 10 districts had reached 520 till date. The New Age correspondent in Noakhali said Whiduzzaman Murad, medical officer of the Kamalnagar Health Complex, on Friday detected a case of human infection. The patient was Harun, 38, a resident of Charbashu.
After the detection, a four-member medical team visited the area and detection another patient to have been infected with anthrax, district health officials said.
‘We gave medicines to the patients and we will visit them again after 10 days,’ Whiduzzaman said.
Local people said a cow, brought from Bhola, was slaughtered at Manzil Para of Charbashu before Eid and 25 families ate the beef.
The government on August 31 declared a ‘red alert’ over anthrax spread and the next day it said the disease was under control.
Twenty-six cases of anthrax infection were first confirmed in Sirajganj on August 19.
Other places from where the infection has been reported are Pabna, Tangail, Kushita, Meherpur, Manikganj, Satkhira, Lalmonirhat, Rajshahi and Narayanganj.
