The Barisal administration on Sunday conducting a drive on Port Road in the city demolished 33 illegal establishments and recovered 40 decimal of public land worth about Tk 8.5 core.
The assistant commissioner (land), Ashrafur Rahman, said giving several notices since 2010 the administration operated the drive.He said illegal land grabbers occupied about 4 acres of public land after a shoal developed in the then Barisal river port area during 80’s and more than one hundred small establishments were constructed there.
The administration evicted most of the illegal occupants earlier but the others tried to prevent the eviction procedure submitting leasing applications which were rejected and finally the authorities completed the eviction operation peacefully, the AC Land said.
The evicted land grabbers urged rehabilitation help to the authorities and said if the authorities would decide to lease the lands to some other else they would protest against it.
