The National Board of Revenue on Thursday decided to keep four major customs stations open on weekly holidays till next national elections to facilitate export and import activities of the readymade garment sector amid current political unrest in the country.
According to a NBR decision, offices of Dhaka Customs House, Chittagong Customs House, Benapole port and Kamalapur Inland Container Depot will remain open on Fridays and Saturdays until next parliamentary elections.
Other emergency activities will also be done at the four customs offices, it said.
The revenue board took the decision as Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association had been requesting to keep open the customs stations, particularly those involved in handling apparel products export and import referring to the recent political unrest including frequent hartals, officials of the NBR said.
BGMEA in a recent letter to NBR said that RMG exporters were facing huge loss as they could not make shipments of export orders in due time because of ongoing political unrest.
