The four-day charity film festival organised to help the tornado affected people in Brahmanbaria will end today at the
Zahir Raihan Auditorium of Jahangirnagar University.
The festival features 12 classic and popular films from home and abroad including Jiban Theke Neya, Life of Pi, Andaz Apna Apna, Happy Days, Bapi Bari Jaa, Murder 3, Mach Misti, Resident Evil Retribution, Himmatwala, Rock Star, GI Go Retaliation and Bojhe Na Se Bojhe Na.
Three films are screened every day. And the proceedings of the sale of the tickets will be donated to the tornado victims.
The university based Brahmanbaria student’s welfare organisation has organised the festival, which was inaugurated by pro-vice chancellor professor MA Matin on Thursday.
‘I welcome the noble initiatives of the students to assist the tornado affected people,’ prof Matin said.
He also urged the students to donate more funds for the cyclone hit people.
‘The festival is offering popular films. More importantly it has opened scope for us to contribute something to the people who are now in misery after the cyclone lashed their villages,’ Hefjur Rahman Shamim, a fourth year student of zoology department said.
Convener of the festival, Boshon said, ‘We are getting good responses from the students and teachers.’
‘A team led by the university vice chancellor will distribute the fund to the victims,’ he added.
Students are also collecting donations at the dormitories. An account has also been opened, no. 0200001941838 at the Agrani Bank branch of JU, where all well-wishers can contribute.
The tornado that lashed Brahmanbaria on March 22 claimed 34 lives and left over 300 people injured. More than 500 homes and establishments were destroyed in the storm.
