4 friends among 6 dead in road accident on the way to see Padma Bridge

Four friends – on their way to see the newly constructed Padma Bridge – were among six persons dead in a tragic road accident in Munshiganj early today.
Three of the deceased were identified as Samad Gazi (24), Ahad (20), and Sifat (20), all hailing from Ichli upazila of Chandpur. Identities of the three other deceased could not be known immediately.
The incident took place on Nimtoli Hasara Highway around 12:45am, reports our Chandpur correspondent quoting families of the three victims from Chandpur.
According to family members, the trio left Chandpur for Dhaka yesterday and decided to meet two other friends from Munshiganj and Bikrampur to visit Padma Bridge at night.
After one of them failed to show up, the four friends started off for Mawa on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. There was also another passenger on the vehicle with them besides the driver. On Nimtoli Hasara highway, the auto-rickshaw hit a covered van from behind after the van suddenly hit brakes, leaving all four passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot, and two others critically injured.
The injured were taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital where they succumbed to the injuries, UNB reported.
The bodies of the three youths from Chandpur have been handed over to family without autopsy following application submitted in this regard, the families added.
Contacted, Md Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Chandpur Sadar Police Station, said they are looking into the matter.
A case has been filed with South Keraniganj Police Station in this connection, Afzal Hossain, in-charge of Hasara Highway Police Outpost, told UNB.
