Mohakal Theatre Festival
4 plays to be staged today
Four plays will be staged at the 13-day Mahakal Natya Sampradaya theatre festival today, on the 11th day of the festival.
Prangonemor will stage Irsha at the National Theatre Hall while Loko Natya Dal (Banani) will stage Sonai Madhob at the Experimental Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; Nandikar will stage Pap Punna at the studio Theatre Hall of the academy. Kolkata-based troupe Pracchya Supari Killer at the Chhayanut auditorium.
Pracchya will stage its comedy Supari Killer, which is written by Birrottor Basu and directed by Biplob Banbopadhyay.
Written by Syed Shamsul Haque and directed by Ataur Rahman, Prangonemor’s Irsha focuses on the inherent feeling of jealousy that every lover is acquainted with.
Sonai Madhab by Loko Natyadal (Banani) is based on a story from Mymensingh Geetika, a collection of traditional ballad. Eugene Gomez has adapted and directed the experimental production. The play is more a Pala rather than a theatrical production as it follows the Geetal or Pachali way, a narrative style of ancient theatre. Through traditional music and dance recitals, the audience can visualise a story in the Pala form.
Nandikar’s Pap Punna, which is directed by Alak Ghosh, is an adaptation of a play by Leo Tolstoy.
