Five people, including four school and madrasa teachers, were killed after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying them was hit by a truck in Sadar upazila of Naogaon this morning.
The deceased have been identified as Delwar Hossain 45, assistant teacher of Panihara High School of Noagaon’s Niamatpur upazila; Makbul Hossain ,57, assistant teacher of Belkapur High School; Jannatun Ferdous, 35, assistant teacher of Guzishahar High School; Lenin Sarkar, 28, assistant teacher of Amkura Ashraful Ulum Madrasa; and Salim Uddin, 45, auto-rickshaw driver from Dangapara village in the same upazila, our Natore correspondent reports quoting Abdul Gafur, inspector (operation) Sadar Police Station of Naogaon.
Noorjahan Khatun, a teacher at Karimdah High School, who was injured in the accident, was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as her condition was critical, said Nazrul Islam Jewel, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
The accident occurred at Bablatola on Rajshahi-Naogaon regional highway around 7:30am while the teachers were going to Naogaon town to take part in a training session on creative education method, said the police official.
Rakibul Islam, additional superintendent of Naogaon police, said the Naogaon-bound auto-rickshaw was hit by a truck laden with poultry-feed, which was heading towards Rajshahi, after the auto-rickshaw swerved to the wrong side of the highway to avoid being hit by a soil-laden tractor.
Two of the auto-rickshaw passengers died on the spot and the rest succumbed to their injuries after being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, added the police official.
