The admission tests for honour first year courses at Rajshahi University under the academic session 2010-11 begin on October 30, with 46 students vying for one seat.
According to the university registrar office, this session 1 lakh 73 thousand and 316 students have registered for the first year admission tests while the number of seats is 3 thousand 820 under 17 units comprising 47 departments.
AHM Aslam Hossain, deputy registrar of Rajshahi University, told New Age that a total of 100 seats have been increased in nine departments, including 10 seats preserved for ethnic minority students, in this academic year.
He said among the increased seats 25 are in the mathematics department, 10 in material science and technology department, 10 in the department of crop science and technology, 5 in animal husbandry and veterinary science, 10 in information science and library management, 10 in music, 10 in fine arts, 5 in dramatics and arts, 10 in folklore department and 10 for the ethnic minority students.

It may be noted that the Rajshahi University introduced unit-based system after a long interval with
a digital format in which the applicants submitted the admission forms through internet and Short Massage Service of Teletalk.
The university vice-chancellor, Professor M Abdus Sobhan, told New Age that to reduce the sufferings of the admission seekers and the regular students of the university, the unit system has been reintroduced from this session.
