Five people, including three of a family, were injured as a charger fan exploded in their house at Maniknagar in the capital on Thursday.
Two-year-old boy Anisuzzaman Apurba, his parents Anowaruzzaman Shipan, 35, and Fariha Zaman Mou, 25, along with neighbours Arman Ali, 2, and Sadia Akther, 5, were injrued.
Sadia was given primary treatment at a local clinic but the others were admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Victim Anowaruzzaman, who is a car driver, said they were staying inside their rented sublet house no 35/2 at Pukurpar of Maniknagar because of rain, when a charger fan in their room exploded with a big bang at about 12:00pm, leaving all of his family members injured.
The house door was blown away in the explosion and it hit his neighbour’s daughter Sadia and his nephew Arman who were playing at the veranda.
Arman is Anowar’s brother’s-in-law son.
Neighbours rushed in and took them to the DMCH.
Physicians at the DMCH burn unit reported that all patients were in a critical condition.
Anowaruzzaman received 75 per cent burn injuries, Fariha 47 per cent and both Anisuzzaman and Arman received 80 per cent burn injuries, said burn unit on-duty doctor Dr Kammaruzzaman.
